The U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) and the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) on Dec. 8 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the stated goal of improving data exchange and sharing best practices.
Each agency is the respective economic regulator of their nation’s freight railroads. The parties have said the established relationship is aimed, in part, at achieving better regulatory practices.
Specifically, the MOU is designed to “facilitate cooperation and information-sharing” between the agencies on developments in rail transportation and approaches related to the discharge of their adjudicative and regulatory mandates.
