LPG, General Purpose Tank Car Sublease Rates Mixed in Slack Demand Market

Tank car sublease rates were mixed this week in quiet trading action. Demand for tank cars is generally sluggish across the board, market sources report.

“I have not moved any pressure cars in a month,” said one rail car broker.

The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) markets have about a month to go before the summer build starts to kick in.That’s the rationale behind another rail car broker’s prediction that “6- to 8-month LPG cars are going to spike in value very soon.”

He looks for car supply to increasingly tighten into September and bases his call on last year’s patterns. “There were no cars in September and October” of 2017.
