Tank Car Sublease Levels Mostly Range bound; Congestion Seen in Some Areas

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank car sublease rates were little changed this week, with some tempering in DOT-117 tank car rates after a report of transactions all the way up to the $1,000-mark last week.

“Feels like a lull here. Been real quiet,” said one natural gas liquids (NGL) logistics and marketing professional in a PADD II state. Although, he noted, he may not “be in those traffic lanes” that are experiencing heavy activity.

He added that it “feels like the dam has broken” when it comes to clearing the congestion seen at Canadian railroads this winter due to weather delays, heavy transport of crude oil and staff shortages.
