ME2 Opening Pushed Back to 3Q 2018

Energy Transfer Partners LP said today that its Mariner East 2 natural gas liquids pipeline will be placed into service in the third quarter of 2018.

The announcement came from company CFO Thomas Long during the company's quarterly earnings call. He said that the pipeline is 98% complete, with 93% of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) complete. The HDD process has been used to drill a path for the pipeline to cross under obstacles such as waterways. Spills of drilling mud at the HDD sites and resulting reviews by Pennsylvania regulators have been a primary factor behind the company missing the pipeline's opening.
