Tank Car Sublease Levels Hold as Market Settles into Spring

Near-term tank car sublease rates were little changed from last week as warmer temperatures brought to mind what may be ahead -- the summer fill season.

One transport director at a propane wholesaler noted there is a warming temperature trend on the horizon for the next seven to 10 days, and said “people are looking forward to setting the table for the next season” and watching for what suppliers offer.

Although Asia has become a significant destination for U.S. liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) the rail energy transport sector seemed largely unfazed by word that China, one of the largest importers of LPG in the world, could raise the duty on imports of U.S. propane to 26% from 1%.
