Mexico’s COFECE Dismisses Rail Monopoly Probe, Looks at LPG

Mexico’s rail market is competitive. That’s the conclusion from a final resolution issued by Mexico’s Economic Competition Commission (COFECE).

The final resolution dismissed a preliminary report from the Investigating Authority of the COFECE which found a lack of competition for rail freight.

Kansas City Southern, one target (along with Ferromex and Ferrosur) of the investigation, acknowledged in a press release Thursday morning, receiving notice from the COFECE which ends the investigation. The investigation began about a year ago this time.

In related news, on Feb. 22, the COFECE said it was investigating possible absolute monopolistic practice in the LP gas market.
