DEP Lifts Suspension of ME2; Issues $12.6 Million Penalty to Sunoco

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (Pa. DEP) Thursday announced it has lifted its order suspending DEP-permitted construction operations on the Mariner East 2 (ME2) natural gas liquids pipeline project by builder Sunoco Pipeline, LLP. The DEP also issued a $12.6 million civil penalty for permit violations related to the construction of the ME2 pipeline project - one of the largest civil penalties the agency has collected in a single settlement.

The Pa. DEP and Sunoco also entered into a Consent Order and Agreement (COA) memorializing the penalty. The $12.6 million penalty will go to the Clean Water Fund and the Dams and Encroachments Fund.
