Energy Transport Insider’s Quarterly Report: ME2, CSX Dominate 4Q Headlines; A Mixed Outlook for LPG-by-Rail in 2018

The fortunes of CSX Transportation and Sunoco Logistics’ Mariner East 2 (ME2) natural gas liquids (NGL) pipeline dominated the headlines in the liquid petroleum gas (LPG)-by-rail sector throughout 2017, even into the fourth quarter.

After delaying the expected third-quarter 2017 opening a quarter due to construction accidents and legal challenges, Sunoco finally admitted in early November the legal challenges had built to the point that it would need to set the opening for the second quarter of 2018.
