LPG Tank Car Sublease Rates Mostly Flat as Crop Drying Progresses

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank car sublease rates were mostly flat this week as crop drying became more of a factor.

Crop drying activity has been especially strong in the upper Midwest, that is the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Distributors have reported strong demand for propane by rail. One distributor expects drying could continue through Thanksgiving.

It’s too early to measure the magnitude of this year’s crop drying demand. Drying demand was light and spotty in the southern and eastern corn belt. It has been strongest in the northern and western corn belt.
