Total loaded liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank car moves edged down 0.7% in September from August, according to a sampling of tank car moves compiled by Energy Transport Insider.
August and September, the last two months of the summer season for the propane and butane markets, typically see shippers move product from storage to distributors and refiners, respectively. Propane distributors move product into position ahead of the fall harvest and the winter heating season. Refiners begin bringing butane to their plants as they gear up to produce winter grade gasoline which includes butane in the mix.
