Mexico Antitrust Regulator Investigating Lack of Competition Among Railroads

Mexico is looking to boost rail industry competition. Mexico’s antitrust regulator said on March 16 that the leading railroads serving Mexico do not offer competitive rail service. According to the Mexican Federal Competition Commission (COFECE), the lack of competition has led to higher fees paid by rail users, additional payments for service, delays in rail car deliveries and higher shipping costs. In an investigation into the market, the Mexican government is asking the carriers to submit replies to the charges within 20 business days....
