CG Railway Addition of Marine-Rail LPG Shipments to Mexico Taps Growth Area

The list of railroads delivering rail cars to Mexico from the U.S. is short -- BNSF, KCS, UP and CG Railway. The first three are well-known Class 1 carriers. The last is a terminal railroad operating in the port of Mobile, Alabama but it does haul some freight. Every four-to-five days, it loads more than 100 rail cars onto ships (including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank cars) and sails across the Gulf of Mexico to Coatzacoalcos in Mexico. In June of last year, terminal railroad CG Railway, Inc. began shipping LPG to Mexico via rail car on vessels out of Mobile, Alabama. The shipments to Mexico – a country which is among of the world’s three largest consumers of LPG – mark an addition to the items including steel, chemical and forest products that the company has been moving in the last decade....
