Rail shipments of HGL-by-rail rivaled crude in 2016: EIA

Release of a new data set of rail movement of energy products by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) last week showed Hydrocarbon Gas Liquids (HGL) by rail volumes nearly doubled from 2010 to 2016 to 426,000 b/d. This left cumulative rail shipments of HGLs in 2016 neck and neck with crude oil. By comparison, rail movements of ethanol and crude oil averaged 637,000 b/d and 478,000 b/d, respectively, during the same period.
